A senior Iranian military commander has warned that Tehran will strike U.S. bases and warships throughout the region if Washington launches a ground invasion of Iran, marking one of the most direct threats yet from Iranian officials as tensions between the two countries continue to rise.

Ali Fadavi, head of the advisory group to the commander-in-chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, delivered the warning on Iranian state television. “If the Americans launch a ground attack, then we will target every location related to the Americans, American bases and every vessel related to the Americans,” he said.

Fadavi argued that the U.S. responds primarily to military force, saying Americans “understand missiles hitting their warships” and “missiles hitting their bases.” He also claimed Iran is producing military equipment faster than it’s being used and that Tehran’s overall capabilities have grown significantly compared to earlier in the conflict. The commander’s remarks placed particular focus on the Strait of Hormuz, the critical waterway that has become a central flashpoint in the standoff. Fadavi said Iran and Oman should jointly establish and enforce rules governing traffic through the strait, and claimed such regulations are already being prepared and put in place. He also warned that any additional American vessels sent into the region could become targets.

“The Americans can only create tensions through the air, and certainly an increase in tensions will be to the detriment of the Americans,” Fadavi said. He further insisted that Iran had “in no way attacked a Muslim country,” drawing a distinction between striking U.S. military bases located inside those countries and directly targeting the nations themselves. The framing reflects Tehran’s broader effort to threaten American assets regionally while avoiding the appearance of attacking neighboring governments.

The Pentagon has been moving additional military forces toward the Middle East, including thousands of troops, carrier strike groups and amphibious units. Washington has also been reinforcing air and missile defenses at American installations across the region as Iranian officials repeatedly signal that those facilities could be hit.

Commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has faced growing danger, with vessels encountering attacks, attempted strikes and harassment in one of the world’s most important energy corridors. What happens next in the confrontation could depend heavily on whether either side escalates beyond the current threshold.
