Simon Andriesz, the British banker who uncovered 2018 emails linking Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to Jeffrey Epstein and took them to the House Oversight Committee, has been found dead at age 57. No official cause of death has been released.

Transparency Task Force founder Andy Agathangelou confirmed that Andriesz died on September 25. “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Simon Andriesz, a valued member of our community, passed away last week,” Agathangelou said. Andriesz was associated with the watchdog group, which monitors financial services companies.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) also announced the death on X, writing: “Andriesz, the British banker who uncovered 2018 emails linking Howard Lutnick to Jeffrey Epstein’s Adfin investment and took them to House Oversight, has died at age 57. BBC reported his findings. Lutnick later admitted to visiting the island but not the business dealings.”

Andriesz previously worked at BGC Partners, a company within Lutnick’s business group. According to the BBC, he was dismissed after reporting accounting irregularities that the company denied. His subsequent digging turned up 2018 emails between Lutnick and Epstein discussing a startup both men were associated with, and he first flagged that correspondence in February 2026.

The BBC covered his findings after the emails were confirmed in Epstein files released by the Justice Department. Those same files revealed that Andriesz had spoken to the FBI in 2020 and 2021 about Lutnick and Epstein. Lutnick had previously said he met Epstein only once, and the emails challenged that account pretty directly.

According to the Andriesz whistleblower report, The Banker has reported that Andriesz died by suicide. However, neither Agathangelou nor Massie identified a cause of death in their announcements, and no official cause has been confirmed. The location and full circumstances of his death have not been publicly established, and there is no confirmed evidence connecting his death to his disclosures.

The disclosures did produce real consequences on Capitol Hill. A House Oversight Committee hearing involving Lutnick followed, and all 21 Democratic members of the committee called for his resignation. Andriesz’s findings put documented communications at the center of questions about Lutnick’s past dealings with Epstein.

What happens next is unclear. An official cause of death remains unreleased, the circumstances surrounding Andriesz’s death are unresolved, and the questions he helped raise about Lutnick’s relationship with Epstein aren’t going anywhere. A 57-year-old man brought emails to Congress, the BBC covered it, and now he’s gone. Authorities have some explaining to do. Share your thoughts in the comments below or on social media.
