New York City socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani went on Theo Von’s podcast this week and was asked whether, if he’d had his way, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should have been arrested when he visited the city last month. His answer was that the United States should be a member of the International Criminal Court and as such, honor every warrant it has issued, including one for Netanyahu. Mamdani went on to falsely describe the Israeli prime minister as the architect of a horrific genocide.

Theo Von: “If you had your say, we would have arrested Netanyahu?”
Mamdani: “If I had my say, the U.S. government would have joined the ICC, honored every single warrant that they've issued.”

Hold that up next to the outrageous explaination he offers up whenever someone asks about the horrific Hamas surprise attack of October 7, 2023. That attack, he says, should be “deeply opposed with every single fiber of our being.”
Say what? Netanyahu, for defending his country, gets the ‘let’s put him in prison for a crime he didn’t commit’ treatment. Hamas the real terrorist organization gets a passive hand slap and tougue lashing. One is a man who should have his freedom taken away, permanently, for a ‘crime’ he never committed. The other is an unfortunate event to be opposed, by someone, somehow, in a manner left entirely unspecified. The slaughter of roughly 1,200 people, the abduction of 251 hostages including infants, the elderly, and Americans — by Hamas, and the strongest verb available to Mamdani is “oppose.”
This is the pattern he has routinely demonstrated, and it has been consistent since before he took office. Whenever the subject turns to Middle East terrorism, Mamdani produces a careful sentence disclaiming support for terror. Then he goes on to vet, host, and pal around with actual terrorists.
Oh, and let’s never forget that he married a terrorist sympathizer, because of course he did:

He campaigned on a pledge to have Netanyahu arrested if the man set foot in his city. In July he conceded what any first-year law student could have told him — that a mayor has no authority to enforce an ICC warrant — and he has spent the months since complaining about that limitation on podcasts rather than letting it go.
He hosted Motaz Azaiza at Gracie Mansion, a figure who has publicly declined to condemn the October 7 massacre and has spoken approvingly of Yahya Sinwar, who planned it. That was a choice about who gets through the mayor’s door.

His office sent a senior aide to seek a meeting with Iran — the regime currently in open conflict with the United States, and the primary state sponsor of the organization that carried out October 7. House Republicans asked whether that crossed statutory lines. The mayor of New York thought it was a reasonable use of his staff’s time.
Any one of these could be explained away. Together they describe someone whose instincts run in a single direction, every time, without exception. When the subject is Israel’s prime minister, he wants handcuffs and an international tribunal. When the subject is the people who murdered 1,200 civilians, he wants a word that commits him to nothing.
New Yorkers elected a mayor to run a city of eight million people. Crime, housing, transit, schools — that’s the job description, and none of it involves international criminal jurisdiction.
Mamdani keeps telling everyone he’s not a terrorist sympathizer while actually sympathizing with and apologizing for actual terrorists. Like the tweet above says: “Don’t overthink it.” That is who he really is.
