Whoopi Goldberg has announced her departure from ‘The View’ – but it may not be what critics were hoping for. She is temporarily stepping away from The View to take on a new acting role. The longtime co-host confirmed she will miss several episodes of the daytime talk show over the coming weeks while she shoots a forthcoming Netflix film.
The announcement came during the Sept. 16 episode of The View‘s Behind the Table podcast, where Goldberg was joined by the show’s executive producer Brian Teta.
Critics of Goldberg were hoping she was leaving the show for good, or better yet, the show ends.
Goldberg Joins Cast for Netflix Film
The movie in question is Women Like Us, a Netflix production that also stars Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams and Vivica A. Fox. For Goldberg, best known to many as the star of the Sister Act franchise, the project is a chance to return to her roots as a film actress while remaining connected to the show she has anchored for years.
According to Whoopi Goldberg’s break from The View, Teta told Goldberg directly on the podcast, “We’re going to lose you for a couple of days because you’re going to be doing this movie.”
Former Co-Hosts to Fill In During Filming Schedule
Teta outlined how her schedule will work during production. “You’re going to be gone over the next two weeks but you’ll be here on Mondays,” he explained. “And the next few weeks, we’re going to have filling in for you, some of our friends, former co-hosts of The View.”
That means viewers can expect a rotating lineup of familiar faces in Goldberg’s seat while she is on set filming. The show has a long history of calling on former co-hosts during absences, giving audiences a mix of nostalgia and fresh conversation.
