Texans Packed Their Town Hall to Oppose a Mosque Expansion — the Council Approved It Unanimously Anyway

Over 150 McKinney residents signed up to address their town council Saturday night — so many that they overflowed the chamber into the hallway, delaying the start of the meeting while staff worked through the registrations. They came to oppose the Islamic Association of McKinney’s plan to expand from its current location to a new 5.5-acre campus capable of hosting up to 2,000 people at a time. They made their case loudly, passionately, and in person.

The council voted unanimously to approve the expansion anyway. This is not a simple story about a zoning decision. The people who showed up to oppose it raised concerns that go well beyond traffic patterns and parking.

Rep. Keith Self (TX-03) opened by getting directly to the point: “Child marriage, honor killings — don’t tell me it can’t happen here.” The crowd gave him a standing ovation.

An Iranian Christian who had lived under Sharia law testified: “I’m a Sharia law survivor from Iran, and I’m here to tell you, this is a dangerous ideology you’re allowing in this country.”

Other speakers raised specific concerns about the Islamic Association’s leadership. One resident noted that the association’s imam holds leadership roles with the Islamic Tribunal of the Dallas area — an organization the Texas Attorney General has stated sought to replace actual courts of law, impose Sharia on disputes among Texas Muslims, and falsely represent its decisions as official judicial judgments.

That’s not a hypothetical worry about what might someday happen. That’s documented conduct by the leadership of the specific organization that just received a unanimous approval vote from McKinney’s town council.

The council was not persuaded by any of it. McKinney’s former Mayor George Fuller spoke in favor of the expansion and was booed and called a “traitor.” His argument — that the Islamic community had been part of McKinney for years and its families had served the community — may be true and still fail to address the concerns about the tribunal’s leadership and stated goals.

Rep. Nancy Mace addressed the broader national picture on CNN Sunday. “Our granddaughters will be wearing burkas to school,” she said. “As a woman, that’s scary to me. It’s being forced on women.”

She then connected the dots that the legacy media refuses to draw: Zohran Mamdani campaigned with an unindicted co-conspirator of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Abdul El-Sayed ran alongside Hasan Piker, who said America deserved September 11th. New Jersey just found 6,600 noncitizens on its voter rolls. The pattern is visible to anyone willing to look at it clearly.

McKinney’s residents looked at it clearly. They showed up. They spoke. They were overruled unanimously.

That’s the story. And it’s playing out in communities across the country whether anyone covers it or not.
