The Washington Post’s apparent willingness to downplay or defend Antifa arrests over attacks against ICE and other federal officers is yet another obscene example of how parts of the legacy media have abandoned basic standards of consistency.
For years, Americans watched as cities across the country experienced riots, vandalism, assaults on police officers, arson attacks and the destruction of private property. While not every protest involved Antifa activists, the movement became closely associated with street violence, black-bloc tactics and attempts to silence political opponents through intimidation.
Yet too often, major media outlets like the WaPo are more interested in explaining away the behavior than condemning it, like the outlet did after some 15 antifa thugs were arrested this week on various felony charges.
The original WaPo X post linking to the story read:
15 people were charged with conspiring to impede or injure federal officers in what the DOJ called an antifa-linked plot targeting agents during Trump’s immigration operation. Defendants say the “antifa” label is being used to criminalize dissent.
That led the Department of Homeland Security to respond:
This headline is ridiculous. These violent rioters are facing federal charges because they violently obstructed and assaulted law enforcement officers and destroyed government property. Shame on the @washingtonpost for defending these Antifa rioters’ violence against our law enforcement.
I guess Jeff Bezos, the owner of the Post, really isn’t interested in fair and balanced reporting after all.

The problem is not that journalists should refuse to cover the motivations of these domestic terrorsts. The problem is that many news organizations appear to apply one standard to violence and intimidation from the political right and a different standard to violence and intimidation from the political left.
The Post report said:
Short for “anti-fascists,” antifa is a loosely knit movement of far-left activists. They are often anti-capitalist or anti-state, and oppose fascism and right-wing ideologies, which has made them a target of the Trump administration.
But some of the defendants and their attorneys said they did not all belong to those groups, that the groups were mischaracterized and that the prosecutions are politically motivated. They said the indictment is designed to intimidate those who resisted the federal operation and to appease Trump.
And instead of dampening dissent, they already see signs that the indictment has reawakened activist networks that had gone dormant in the months after federal officials drew down the immigration operation.
Antifa’s agenda goes far beyond merely opposing what it labels “fascism” or conservative politics.
The movement has long been hostile to free markets, private enterprise, constitutional government and many of the foundational principles that underpin the American system.
What critics casually dismiss as “capitalism” is, in reality, the freedom of individuals to use their talents, labor, property and resources to improve their own lives without excessive government control.
Antifa activists have repeatedly targeted institutions and ideas that most Americans take for granted, from federalism and limited government to free speech and law enforcement. Their definition of an acceptable political viewpoint is so narrow that virtually anyone to the right of the modern progressive movement can become a target.
Time and again, we’ve watched Antifa-affiliated thugs engage in violence, vandalism and intimidation against federal officers, political opponents and even ordinary citizens. The pattern is well established, which makes attempts to sanitize or romanticize the movement all the more troubling. That’s why Trump designated the group a domestic terrorist organization.
Speaking of Trump, he weighed in, too, and he was equally salty:

Much of this hostility is caused by the Dumocrats and the Fake News. The concept I have had for quite some time — A strong feeling that the name of these Patriots, “ICE,” should be changed to, “NICE,” in that it will totally discombobulate Crooked, Dishonest, and Unpatriotic Reporters and Journalists. For them to say, “We went to a NICE Facility today,” as opposed to “ICE” or, “NICE Agents have deported a Violent Drug Dealer,” they won’t be able to handle it, they will go totally crazy! All it means is adding an “N” (“National”) to “ICE (“Immigration and Customs Enforcement”) — A much more prestigious name. Everyone loves it, but I have been told by the legendary Tom Homan that the Agents do not love it as much as the other population. Who thinks that we should add an “N” to change the name of “ICE” to “NICE?”
The Washington Post is a joke, like every other legacy corporate media outlet whose staff are striken with the disease of leftism.
