Anytime one of the super-woke ‘Squad’ Democrats gets embarrassed, it is a glorious thing to behold. The latest one to see her dignity shredded in a public manner is terrorist-loving Rep. Rashida Tlaib.
On Thursday, she thought it was smart to hold up House business to try to tie Congress up over Israel, but it didn’t go as planned. Not even close, actually.
Tlaib’s Lebanon War Powers Resolution was defeated with a vote of 92-324, as 117 Democrats joined 205 Republicans in voting against it. Only 91 Democrats and Rep. Thomas Massie (RINO-Ky) supported the measure, while Reps. Derek Tran (CA-45) and Betty McCollum (MN-04) voted “present.”
The resolution aimed to direct President Donald Trump to withdraw U.S. forces from Lebanon within seven days. Tlaib described it as a necessary emergency check on the administration, accusing Israel of conducting an “ethnic cleansing” campaign in Lebanon and emphasizing the need for Congress to take immediate action.
Before the vote, she whined:
Every day that we do nothing, 11 more Lebanese children are killed or injured by the Israeli military in this U.S.-supported invasion. Congress must pass today’s Lebanon War Powers Resolution.
Always ‘the children,’ huh, Rashida? What about Israeli kids killed or maimed by your terrorist buddies? Exactly.
Democrats including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08), Minority Whip Katherine Clark (MA-05), and Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar (CA-33) were opposed, for an obvious reason: US troops aren’t fighting in Lebanon.
And Tlaib knows this, so her resolution was nothing but political performative art with the goal of, once again, crapping on Israel.
As for the bulk of her party, many of them did not want to hamper U.S. forces currently engaged in the region against her Hezbollah buddies. Rep. Haley Stevens from Tlaib’s state of Michigan said the resolution would “put U.S. embassy personnel at risk and interfere with our efforts to fight terrorism across the globe.”
More:
The timing made it worse for Tlaib. The day before, House Democrats had successfully passed a war powers resolution on Iran with help from four Republicans. Democratic leaders were willing to use that vote against Trump.
They were not willing to follow Tlaib the next day into a resolution on Lebanon that never named Hezbollah, that their own members said could endanger embassy personnel, and that invoked war powers in a country where, by their own admission, the United States is not at war.
Jeffries, Clark, and Aguilar called Hezbollah a sworn enemy of the United States. Tlaib’s resolution did not call them anything at all. That contrast is what 117 Democrats were voting on when they sided with Republicans to kill it.
It is an abomination that the good people of Michigan would continue to send such an obvious anti-American terrorist sympathizer to Congress. But she’s a Democrat, so that’s not such a stretch.
