President Donald Trump confirmed what many had suspected about the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
In a Wednesday interview with Miranda Devine of the New York Post, Trump asserted that federal informants infiltrated the crowd gathered to hear him speak and played a role in inciting the violence that occurred at the Capitol.
“Just so you understand, these are people that have been decimated,” he said, referring to those who were railroaded over Jan. 6. “These are people that lost their lives over nonsense, where the FBI said, ‘go in, go in, police, go in, go into the van.’”
He added that many Jan. 6 defendants were “were supposed to serve five years, 10 years in jail” and that some died by suicide.
“These were many great people,” Trump said. “And I gave them pardons. I’m very proud to have given them pardons. And I think they should be reimbursed for a crooked government.”

After the riot occurred, it was later revealed that approximately 26 confidential human sources working with the FBI were among the protesters demonstrating against the outcome of the 2020 presidential election. These informants were ostensibly present to provide the FBI with information about potential criminal activity.
An investigation (of sources) conducted by the Justice Department found that three of the informants had been specifically instructed by the FBI to travel to Washington, D.C., and monitor certain groups that could pose a problem.
The other informants were present to gather information or for personal reasons.
But, as legal analyst Julie Kelly pointed out a couple of years ago, the DOJ inspector general’s supposedly clearing of the FBI’s role was political cover wrapped in a technicality.

Many have claimed that at least some of these informants acted as agitators, inciting the crowd to storm the Capitol building and clash with the police. Video footage reportedly shows informants encouraging people to push into the building.
The DOJ’s Inspector General stated that the informants did not promote illegal activities; however, four of them did enter the building without authorization.

Former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino has cautioned against painting the entire FBI with a broad brush of corruption. That said, it’s difficult not to view the bureau’s behavior over the past 10 years with suspicion.
What agents did to Trump alone is an abomination that really should have led to multiple prison sentences. In a truly just world, that would have happened, and it would have begun with James Comey’s conviction.
