Democrats are claiming President Trump is using his second term to take “revenge” on his political opponents. That’s rich considering that, while Joe Biden slept and stumbled through his term, the people who were really running the show used every means necessary – legal and illegal – to try and put Trump behind bars for the rest of his life.
But in fact, if anything, the GOP majorities on Congress are actually on the prowl for some political payback, and the next target is Jack Smith. What they have planned could, we should hope, lead to some criminal charges against the former DOJ attack dog:
Former special counsel Jack Smith will likely be called back to Capitol Hill to testify about his pursuit of two criminal cases against President Trump.
Sen. Eric Schmitt, Missouri Republican, said Republicans have been developing information about Arctic Frost, the Biden Justice Department’s pursuit of Mr. Trump, and the time is ripe to pull it all together with a hearing to grill Mr. Smith.
“I think you can see a hearing this summer with Jack Smith being front and center,” the senator told “Seen, Heard & Whispered.”
He said the GOP’s investigation has been aided by whistleblowers who have revealed the extent of the pursuit of Mr. Trump after his first term. They have poked holes in the FBI’s justification for the dramatic raid to seek classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, and shed light on the Justice Department’s move to secretly gather phone records of members of Congress.
“It does make Watergate look like a third-grade burglary,” Mr. Schmitt said.
Smith, you recall, secured a pair of indictments against Trump – for ‘mishandling classified information’ (while Joe Biden had classified docs in his garage and Mike Pence was allowed to return classified info) and for ‘2020 election interference.’
But also, Smith ran “Operation Arctic Frost,” which was a gigantic spying operation against a slew of Republican lawmakers under the false guise of ‘investigating Donald Trump.
They spied on President Trump.
They spied on Senators.
Now, we just learned, they spied on me.
If they can do it to us, they can do it to you. https://t.co/e0z5zJO9G3 pic.twitter.com/jGb2VKIIPN

Smith also had Trump’s government-issued phone seized during his operation.
Now, it could be that Republicans are working to ensure that Smith faces charges too for abuse of power and illegal searches. Let’s hope that’s where this upcoming hearing leads.
