CNN Guest Calls Minn. Gov. Tim Walz A ‘Buffoon’ Over Crazy Claim

CNN contributor Scott Jennings referred to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as a “buffoon” during a humorous segment over the weekend. Jennings, who often promotes conservative viewpoints on the left-leaning network’s panels, was discussing the upcoming vice presidential debate between Walz and Sen. J.D. Vance, Donald Trump’s running mate, which is set to take place on Tuesday evening.

“Walz is a buffoon. I’m sorry, this guy, he’s the only school teacher in America who brags that none of his students can get into an Ivy League school,” Jennings said after Walz previously attacked former President Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance, for attending a prestigious university. “I had 24 kids in my high school class. And none of them went to Yale,” Walz, a former teacher, said during the Democratic National Convention.

Previously, Walz attacked former President Trump’s running mate for attending a prestigious university. “I had 24 kids in my high school class. And none of them went to Yale,” Walz, a former teacher, said during the Democratic National Convention, as if that is some sort of accomplishment.

Jennings also ridiculed Walz for the campaign’s unprecedented lack of press access, pointing out that Walz’s only interview during the campaign cycle—conducted alongside Vice President Harris—was a pre-taped, 18-minute conversation with CNN’s Dana Bash. During the interview, Bash pressed Walz, who never served in a combat zone during his time with the Minnesota National Guard, about his earlier comments regarding “carrying weapons of war.” The Minnesota governor attempted to sidestep the question by claiming he misspoke. “My wife, the English teacher, told me my grammar is not always correct,” he said.

“He’s had one consequential press interaction with our Dana Bash, who asked him about the fabrications in his own resume, and his answer was essentially, ‘me no understand words good,’” Jennings said. “I mean, he’s a buffoon. He’s on a free ride for running under Harris.”

WATCH:

Vance taunted his Democratic opponent before a rally in Wisconsin earlier this month. In a brief video, Vance was shown playing the hunting simulator game “Buck Hunter,” which is a classic arcade game. “Hey guys, J.D. Vance here, playing a little Buck Hunter before a rally in Eau Claire, Wisconsin,” the Ohio senator told the camera while holding the video game rifle before dropping this master troll: “Also known as the closest Tim Walz has ever gotten to real combat.”

Vance — who served as a Marine public affairs officer in Iraq during the peak of the insurgency in 2005 — has consistently criticized Walz for allegedly misrepresenting his military service record. Soldiers from Walz’s unit in the Minnesota National Guard have raised concerns about the circumstances of his retirement just before a planned deployment to Iraq. They have also highlighted discrepancies in how Walz has represented his rank during his campaign.
