California Democrat Rep. Robert Garcia threatened Stephen Miller with lawfare last week, called him the architect of “unconstitutional ICE raids,” and demanded he “lawyer up.” Then Garcia went on CNN Sunday and couldn’t name a single actual crime Miller committed. Classic.
Garcia, the incoming Democrat Oversight Chairman, fired off a statement Friday that read like something written in a blind rage. “Stephen Miller is the architect of the unconstitutional ICE raids that have terrorized our communities and kidnapped and killed American citizens and immigrant families,” Garcia said. He also called Trump’s presidency “corrupt and lawless” for good measure, because apparently adjectives are free. “Oversight Democrats will continue to investigate Miller for his misconduct, and we will fight against his hateful policies in Congress and the courts,” Garcia added. “Stephen Miller should lawyer up.”
That’s a lot of tough talk for a guy who, when given a national television platform to back it up, came up completely empty. Garcia appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” with host Dana Bash on Sunday, and he could not name one specific crime Stephen Miller is supposed to have committed. Not one. Todd Blanche didn’t let the Friday statement slide without a response. “The Chief of Staff already has a lawyer,” Blanche said. “The Attorney General of the United States and the Department of Justice.” That’s the kind of answer that ends a conversation before it starts.
It’s worth knowing a little background on Garcia here. He was born in Lima, Peru, came to the United States at age 5 on a visa that later expired, and lived in the country as an illegal alien until he became a citizen in his twenties. Now he chairs the Oversight Committee and tweets “LAWYER UP” at Trump advisors on election night. Only in America, folks, though probably not the America he’s picturing.
This is what the Democrat Party has become. No real policy agenda, no legislative vision, just an endless conveyor belt of threats, investigations, and strongly worded statements aimed at political enemies. Garcia tweeted “LAWYER UP” the same night Democrats swept the House, before he even knew what committee he’d be running. The strategy was already locked in before the votes were counted.
Stephen Miller is headed to the White House as Chief of Staff regardless, with the full legal backing of the Justice Department behind him. Garcia will keep holding press conferences and posting threats on social media. At some point, someone on CNN is going to ask him again what crime was actually committed, and the answer will probably be just as empty as it was Sunday. Same circus, different clown car.
