Ilhan Omar’s Alleged ‘Brother Husband’ Calls Himself a ‘Gay Man’ in Woke Academic Paper

Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, Rep. Ilhan Omar's ex-husband whom President Trump accuses of being her brother, identified himself as a 'gay man' in an academic paper published in 2026. The revelation adds another strange twist to Omar's already complicated marriage history, which is now under federal investigation.

Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, Rep. Ilhan Omar’s ex-husband and the man President Trump accuses of being her brother, described himself as a “gay man” in an academic paper published in August 2026. Elmi, a doctoral researcher at the University of Bristol, wrote that studying violence against gay individuals in Africa was “not just an academic undertaking” because of “the complexities of [his] identity” as a “gay man of the East African diaspora.” Tabloids had long described his social media presence as “flamboyant,” but this is the first time his sexual orientation showed up explicitly in writing.

The paper, which covers his reflections on interviewing research subjects in Kenya, is stuffed with phrases like “standpoint theory” and “fluid insider-outsider positioning.” One expert was not impressed. Ian Kingsbury, senior director of the Center for Accountability in Medicine at Do No Harm, told the Daily Caller News Foundation, “It has all the features of woke slop: Not methodologically serious, ideologically slanted, and more concerned with academic ornamentation than clear communication.” He added that “the fact that it’s so tedious and painful to read signals that it isn’t meant for an audience outside a small clique of sociologists or gender theorists.” Your tax dollars, or rather British taxpayers’ pounds, are funding this, since Elmi pulls research money from the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council.

All of this lands while Omar is already under serious federal scrutiny. Department of Homeland Security authorities raided her Washington, D.C., home on October 12, and the federal investigation into Ilhan Omar reportedly originated in a war crimes unit and is examining both the legitimacy of her naturalization and evidence pointing to a sham marriage with Elmi, according to The New York Times. Neither Elmi nor Omar’s congressional office responded to requests for comment, which is always a great sign of innocence.

Omar’s marriage history reads like a law school hypothetical designed to test your sanity. She and Elmi were married by a Christian minister in February 2009, even though Omar is Muslim. At the same time, she had two children with Ahmed Hirsi, a man she had wed in a religious ceremony in 2002 but never legally married. A few months into her legal marriage to Elmi, Hirsi listed the same address as his residence, suggesting he was living with Omar while she was legally married to someone else. She had a third child with Hirsi in 2012. Her divorce from Elmi was finalized in 2017.

Then there’s the name problem, and it’s a big one. Somali naming tradition ties a person’s name to their father’s family line, not a spouse’s. The name on Elmi and Omar’s marriage certificate indicates Elmi is the son of someone named Nur Said. A Department of Justice filing identified Omar as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi,” suggesting she, too, is a child of Nur Said. Omar has publicly identified her father as Nur Omar Mohamed, but archived Facebook posts show her father used “Nur Said” as a name, and Omar herself used it in a since-deleted tweet. Her spokesperson explained in 2019 that “Nur Said” was a childhood nickname meaning “Happy Light” in Arabic. One small problem: Somalis speak Somali, not Arabic.

A 2016 Facebook post identifies a woman named Leila Elmi as Omar’s sister, and that woman’s marriage certificate lists “Nur Said Elmi” as her father, the same patronymic name as Omar’s ex-husband. Omar called the accusation she married her brother “insane” in an interview, but when journalist Chris Hayes pressed her with “You’re not related to him at all? There’s not a weird kernel of truth through some game?” she answered, “Not to my knowledge.”

Not exactly a ringing denial. The federal investigation is ongoing, and the pile of unanswered questions just keeps growing alongside Elmi’s academic bibliography.

Sounds like they’re all lying and covering up their corruption.
