A 21-year-old Florida woman named Allison Albro is sitting in jail after allegedly posting a selfie on social media threatening to shoot President Donald Trump at his Daytona Beach rally. Apparently she did not get the memo that the Secret Service is not big on internet humor if it involves threats to a sitting president. And to be honest, who is dumb enough to threaten the president on social media with their own selfie? Is that not the dumbest thing you’ve heard all week?
Screenshots showed Albro allegedly wrote: “Going to the trump rally in my city tmr so I can sh,t him with my glock! Wish me luck guys!!” Bold strategy, posting that from your own account with your own face in the picture. Just absolutely galaxy-brained stuff.
According to the Allison Albro Trump threat arrest, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Domestic Security Unit and the Secret Service showed up at her home within hours of the post going up. By early Friday morning, the selfie had become a mugshot, which is honestly one of the fastest character arcs in recent memory.
Albro now faces charges for “written threats to kill” and “unlawful use of a communications device.” When law enforcement officers came knocking, she reportedly told them she was “joking” and that she didn’t even have access to a weapon. That’s the kind of defense strategy that makes public defenders earn every penny.
Social media lit up fast. One commenter summed it up perfectly: “Ya know, I hated Obama as my president. He was horrible in every sense of the word. I never wanted to kill him.” Another added, “People’s brains are broken and there is no fix.” Hard to argue with either of those takes.
There have been multiple assassination attempts against President Trump, all unsuccessful. None of that makes threats like this one acceptable, funny, or smart, and the Secret Service made that point crystal clear in about the time it takes to scroll through your morning feed.
As one social media post noted with beautiful economy: “FAFO: The Secret Service does NOT do irony.” Albro is now learning that lesson the hard way, facing serious felony charges over what she called a joke. The case moves forward from here, and something tells us her next post is going to be a lot less bold.
