Here We Go: Case Against Perv Eric Swalwell Takes A Bizarre Turn

Text size

Pervy disgraced ex-Dem Congressman Eric Swalwell’s life just keeps going from bad to worse after his sexcapades brought down his marriage and political career.

Federal agents raided a Beverly Hills mansion Tuesday morning as part of the ongoing criminal investigation involving Swalwell, marking the latest escalation in a federal probe that has already included searches of Swalwell’s Washington home and the seizure of his electronic devices.

The FBI executed a search warrant at the Beverly Hills property early Tuesday, with multiple agents seen entering and searching the sprawling residence, according to Fox News and the Los Angeles Times. The mansion is reportedly associated with billionaire businessman and Democratic political donor Stephen Cloobeck, who previously ran for California governor before ending his campaign and later contributing to Swalwell’s gubernatorial bid.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed exactly what agents were searching for at the property or what evidence, if any, was seized during Tuesday’s operation. The search is connected to the broader federal investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct involving Swalwell, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

At least five women have accused Swalwell of sexual misconduct or assault, including a former staffer who accused him of rape, allegations that contributed to the California Democrat ending his campaign for governor and resigning from Congress in April.

Swalwell has denied committing sexual assault or other sexual misconduct, while acknowledging when he resigned that he had made what he described as ‘mistakes in judgment’ (you think??). Tuesday’s raid follows a significant federal operation in August when FBI agents approached Swalwell after he arrived at San Francisco International Airport and seized electronic devices pursuant to a search warrant.

Court records later showed investigators seized an Apple iPhone and MacBook Pro from Swalwell during the airport encounter. Federal agents searched Swalwell’s Washington, D.C., residence the following day as part of the same investigation.

Multiple women have been contacted by the FBI as investigators examine the allegations, with CNN reporting in August that four accusers had confirmed speaking with federal agents. Federal investigators are examining whether potential violations of 18 U.S.C. § 242 occurred, a civil-rights statute that makes it a crime for someone acting under color of law to willfully deprive another person of federally protected rights.

The reference to the statute has raised questions about whether investigators are examining potential abuse of governmental authority in addition to the underlying sexual-misconduct allegations, although authorities have not publicly detailed the full scope of the investigation.

Separate investigations were also opened earlier this year by authorities in New York and California after women came forward with allegations against Swalwell. Swalwell represented California in Congress for more than 13 years and became one of President Donald Trump’s most outspoken Democratic adversaries, serving on the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees and later acting as an impeachment manager during Trump’s second impeachment trial.

He resigned from Congress in April as the misconduct allegations mounted and abandoned his campaign for California governor, saying he intended to fight what he called serious false accusations. The Beverly Hills raid comes one day after the White House released declassified FBI records concerning Swalwell’s past relationship with Christine Fang, a suspected Chinese intelligence operative who had contact with him more than a decade ago.

Federal investigators had previously warned Swalwell about Fang in 2015, after which he said he cut off contact with her, and a House Ethics Committee investigation into the matter closed in 2023 without taking action against him.
