Ilhan Omar’s Citizenship Up In Smoke After Being Exposed

Former GOP congressional candidate AJ Kern first raised questions about Rep. Ilhan Omar's citizenship back in 2019, and now a federal raid on Omar's D.C. home has brought those questions roaring back.

AJ Kern was saying it back in 2019 while the mainstream media was busy calling anyone who asked questions a bigot. Now, after a federal raid on Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., home as part of an immigration probe, the former Republican congressional candidate from Minnesota is speaking out again, and this time everyone is paying attention.

Kern was the first person to publicly question whether Omar was 17 or 18 when she obtained U.S. citizenship through her father’s naturalization. That distinction matters a lot, because if Omar was 18 or older at the time, she could not have become a citizen through her father. Kern posted a video about the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library listing Omar’s birth date as Oct. 4, 1981. Shortly after that video went up, NewsNation obtained an email from Omar’s staff asking the library to change her birth year from 1981 to 1982. Totally normal thing to do, right?

Kern didn’t stop there. She kept digging, and what she found was even more damaging. She received a Certificate of Non-Existence from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, meaning they could not find any records of Omar’s father becoming a U.S. citizen. Omar claims derivative citizenship through her father, who passed away in 2020, so Kern requested his records. After a year of waiting, Ilhan Omar citizenship probe she got a letter dated June 20, 2023.

“I have a letter from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services dated June 20, 2023, that states that after a thorough search of their database and using all variations of his name, that there is no record of her father’s naturalization,” Kern told NewsNation. Then she went to the Department of Homeland Security, and they came back with the same result. No record. Twice. From two different federal agencies.

Kern also laid out the bigger systemic problem when talking to conservative commentator Benny Johnson. “It’s easy for refugees to come into the country, obtain a driver’s license, register to vote, and then all they have to do is say, ‘I’m a citizen, I’m a citizen,’ and no one can do anything about it,” she said. Minnesota, it turns out, does not verify citizenship when candidates run for office. Self-attestation is enough. Neither the FEC nor Congress checks either.

So to recap, a seat in the United States Congress apparently comes with an honor system for citizenship. Kern summed it up perfectly. “The American people believe that only Americans may occupy a seat in Congress, and there’s no way that a foreign nationalist could possibly be occupying a seat in Congress,” she said. “And that’s not true.”

Federal investigators are now looking into exactly what Kern flagged years ago, which means the woman the media ignored for years is about as vindicated as it gets. The investigation is ongoing, and if the records continue to say what they say, things are going to get a whole lot worse for Omar. Turns out “just ask her” wasn’t quite the rigorous vetting process Congress had in mind.

And worse it does get thanks to Omar’s own memoir, which exposes her age once again.
