CA Democrat Blames Trump For Gas Prices, Ignores Her Own Highest-In-Nation Taxes And Fees

Text size

When it comes to logic, common sense, and doing the right thing for the American people, the Democrats are nowhere to be found. When it comes to finger-pointing and projecting for things they do, and blaming Republicans for it, the Democrats are everywhere to be found.

And such is the case with this absolute bonehead of a Democrat, Rep, Norma Torres. She had the nerve to stand in front of a gas station, make the dumbest video ever about blaming Trump for gas prices, and she never once thought to blame her own Governor Gavin Newsom or his hair gel for having the HIGHEST-IN-THE-FREAKING-NATION gas taxes and fees.

You read that right, folks. Gas prices in California are higher than other places because of the laws made by Democrats in their own state. This has nothing to do with the rest of us, and certainly not the president. It’s a California tax and fee structure that’s screwing over Americans.

But of course, Democrats lie and point the finger for the stuff they do.

California’s gas prices are structurally the highest in the country due to a combination of state-specific taxes, strict environmental regulations, and isolated supply logistics. While global crude oil markets set the baseline for fuel costs, state-level policies defended or expanded under Governor Gavin Newsom’s administration add significant overhead to every gallon sold at the pump.

Critics and energy economists point to several key drivers, beginning with California’s highest-in-the-nation gas tax and environmental fees. When combining the state’s excise tax, cap-and-trade program, and low-carbon fuel standards, state surcharges add over $1.15 to $1.20 to the cost of every gallon. Furthermore, state law mandates a unique, cleaner-burning summer-blend gasoline to combat smog.

Because this specialized blend is expensive to refine and cannot be imported through standard national pipelines, any minor supply disruption at local refineries instantly spikes regional prices.

Compounding these issues is California’s geographic and regulatory isolation. The state lacks interstate fuel pipelines, effectively making it a “fuel island.” Stricter environmental regulations and long-term climate goals have contributed to a contraction in local refining capacity over recent years.

This leaves the state highly vulnerable, as it must rely entirely on internal production or costly overseas imports when local refineries undergo maintenance or shut down.

Governor Newsom and his administration contest the idea that state policies are the primary culprit, instead blaming extreme price spikes on corporate price gouging and market manipulation by major oil companies.

In response, Newsom signed legislation establishing a state watchdog to monitor refinery profit margins and penalize excess profits.

To offer temporary relief during major price shocks, the administration has also utilized executive actions to accelerate the rollout of cheaper winter-blend gasoline ahead of schedule.

So like I said, the ridiculous gas prices in California are because of Democrats, nothing else.
