Dumpster-Diving Feds Looked for Ilhan Omar’s DNA, This Means Serious Business

Federal agents collected DNA from Ilhan Omar's trash before raiding her Washington, D.C. home, with a NewsNation anchor reporting that indictments are expected to be 'stunning in nature' and go far beyond familiar immigration fraud allegations.

Federal agents went through Ilhan Omar’s trash to collect DNA before raiding her Washington, D.C. home earlier this week, and according to NewsNation’s Leland Vittert, what’s coming next is going to be a lot bigger than most people realize. Vittert, the chief Washington anchor and host of “On Balance,” said multiple sources confirmed the dumpster dive and warned that indictments are expected to be “stunning in nature.”

On Friday, Vittert laid it all out: “Multiple sources have confirmed to me that federal agents went dumpster diving to get DNA from Minnesota Congresswoman Omar and her family before that blockbuster raid on her D.C. home earlier this week. I’m told this investigation extends far beyond the most familiar case and accusation against Omar that she married her brother to help him gain citizenship or that she falsified her birth year to immigrate as a minor.” That’s quite a sentence to have to read about a sitting member of Congress.

The investigation, currently led by the Minneapolis Homeland Security Investigations Office, was originally opened under President Biden, then quietly closed, and then reopened under President Trump. Funny how that works. During the Monday raid on her D.C. home, federal agents hauled out boxes of evidence. Omar’s phone, computers, and passport were all seized. And Vittert says that at the very same time her home was being searched, over a dozen other raids were happening elsewhere. This was not a small operation. Omar’s office wasted no time playing the victim card. Her official statement called it “an outrageous abuse of power and an unprecedented escalation in the weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies,” and insisted “the Congresswoman has done nothing wrong.” Because that’s exactly what someone who has done nothing wrong needs: a press release screaming about political persecution before anyone’s even been charged.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin pushed back hard on the political motivation argument, going on “The Charlie Kirk Show” to set the record straight. I will tell you, we wouldn’t move forward, and President Trump didn’t want to move forward either, unless we knew that it couldn’t be politically driven,” Mullin said. “This was about enforcing, once again, our nation’s laws. And it’s a strong case.” When the Secretary of Homeland Security goes on record saying the case is strong, that tends to mean something.

With indictments reportedly on the way and Vittert saying they’ll go “far beyond anything the public has understood the case to be about,” the next few weeks could be very interesting for Minnesota’s most famous congresswoman. One thing’s for sure: when the feds are picking through your garbage for DNA before they even knock on your door, the word “pointless” probably isn’t the best way to describe what’s coming.
