MSNBC, or MSNOW, whatever it is… their contributor Jason Johnson called Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito a “burglar” on Monday’s On the Line, declared his legacy will be “terrible,” and topped it off by scolding a CBS reporter for being too polite.
Just another day in the news by a liberal outlet who has nothing useful to contribute to the media. It’s like all the worst people in the media seem to work for the same place.
The segment started when host Alicia Menendez showed a clip of CBS News reporter Jan Crawford asking Alito whether he worried about his work being undone if he retired. That apparently sent Johnson over the edge, not because of anything Alito said, but because Crawford didn’t scream at him.
“That was a horrible question,” Johnson said. “Don’t you worry about all the work that you’ve done being undone? Oh, you mean the work of snatching away rights and snatching away things that you would establish as precedent for the last 50 years because you want to serve your political masters?” Asking a sitting justice a polite question is now a journalistic war crime, apparently.
Johnson then produced the burglar analogy that will probably haunt every future job interview he has. He said Alito expressing concern about court expansion is “essentially like a burglar in your house saying, ‘Hey, I’m sick and tired of all these conversations about burglar alarms. What’s going on?'” The Jason Johnson Justice Alito burglar comparison is one for the cable news hall of fame.

He backed up the court-packing push by citing a trust number. “The American people have decided that only 46 percent of us even trust this court,” Johnson said, calling court reform “absolutely essential,” whether that means expanding the court or adding “ethics guardrails.” Because nothing fixes a trust problem like adding more politicians to the mix.
MSNBC legal analyst Joyce Vance had already set the table by fretting about the court’s “rich panoply of opportunity to undo important American rights” this term, with a particular focus on immigration cases involving deportations to third countries. She said, “If the Supreme Court signs off on that, it’ll be difficult for Americans to appreciate who we’ve become as a country.” Jason Johnson burglar comparison segment covered the full exchange, including Vance’s “list of dreads” about upcoming SCOTUS cases on elections, guns, LGBTQ rights, and immigration.
Johnson also told Menendez he thinks the Supreme Court can be a winning midterm issue for Democrats, pointing to voters in Michigan, North Carolina, and Texas. He argued that since the end of Roe v. Wade in 2022, everybody pays attention to the court. Whether comparing justices to home invaders helps that cause is, let’s say, an open question.
The Supreme Court’s new term is underway, so expect more of this from the MSNBC crowd every time the court takes up a case they don’t like. Drop your thoughts in the comments or share this on social media, because apparently the burglar is still on the loose.
