The House Oversight Committee released a report Wednesday accusing ActBlue, the dominant fundraising platform for Democratic candidates and left-wing causes, of orchestrating a cover-up of allegedly fraudulent donations, including contributions traced to foreign sources.
“Our investigation found that ActBlue weakened fraud safeguards despite detecting significant fraud campaigns, including several from foreign sources,” the committee stated. The report was first shared with Fox News, which detailed what Republicans described as a deliberately lax approach to fraud prevention.
ActBlue Took a ‘More Lenient Approach’ in 2024, Report Says
The committee’s findings center on decisions ActBlue made during the 2024 election cycle. According to ActBlue fraud cover-up report, the report concluded that the platform “decided to take ‘a more lenient approach’ to fraud prevention in 2024, weakening its fraud-prevention policies at least twice even though internal assessments showed that these changes would result in a measurable increase in fraudulent contributions.”
Republicans on the panel accused ActBlue of accepting foreign donations and then concealing those transactions, charges the organization flatly rejects. Several ActBlue board members have recently invoked the Fifth Amendment rather than answer questions before the Oversight and House Administration Committee, a move that has drawn further scrutiny from investigators.
ActBlue Calls the Report a Coordinated Political Stunt
ActBlue issued a sharp response after the report’s release, denying any misconduct and framing the investigation as a partisan attack. “There’s nothing to see here,” the organization said in a statement. “After we released findings of a third-party forensic analysis that completely undermined a central claim that they have made against ActBlue, Republicans are refusing to move on.”
The organization went further, accusing Republicans of bad faith. “Instead, they are orchestrating another political stunt before rushing out of town weeks early to go campaign,” ActBlue said. “This coordinated campaign against ActBlue isn’t about the facts, or legislating, it’s about Republicans’ efforts to silence organizations they believe threaten their agenda.”

The report marks an escalation in congressional scrutiny of online political fundraising and the safeguards platforms are required to maintain. With several board members having declined to testify under oath, pressure is likely to grow for additional hearings or potential legal action.
