The most useful Democratic admissions come wrapped in outrage. Hakeem Jeffries ally and former Rep. Abigail Spanberger, now governor of Virginia, was furious about the One Big Beautiful Bill’s Medicaid work requirements — so furious that she posted a statement confirming everything conservatives have been saying about illegal aliens accessing taxpayer-funded healthcare.
“More than 300,000 Virginians on Medicaid risk losing their coverage because of the so-called ‘One Big Beautiful Bill,'” Spanberger posted this week. Behind that number, she said, is “someone seeking treatment for cancer, a Virginian just trying to fill a prescription, a family one hard month away from an empty dinner.”
But being in Virginia doesn’t make you a “Virginian.” Being a citizen of America who lives in Virginia makes you a “Virginian.”

Anyway, the left’s own account of who loses coverage under the bill tells you exactly who has been receiving it. The people removed from Medicaid rolls were not American citizens with genuine healthcare needs. Not people too sick or disabled to work. The specific populations carved out of the new requirements.
I’m glad you’re admitting that there are more than 300K illegals in VA. Time to send them all packing!

Did you seriously just admit there are 300k illegals in Virginia? https://t.co/KbHMoUU8eg

Spanberger called these people “Virginians.” The Virginia GOP corrected the record: “The only people who will no longer have access to taxpayer-funded benefits are illegal aliens, able-bodied adults who refuse to work, and fraudsters. This shameless fearmongering is totally dishonest and immoral.”
The only people who will no longer have access to taxpayer-funded benefits are:
?Illegal aliens
?Able-bodied adults who refuse to work
?FraudstersThis shameless fearmongering is totally dishonest and immoral. OBBB protects Medicaid for those who need it most. https://t.co/b9qb2yWp9A

Democrats spent years insisting illegal aliens don’t receive Medicaid. Spanberger’s own post confirms otherwise — 300,000 of them in Virginia alone. And that’s just the population currently enrolled that’s at risk under the new law. It doesn’t account for illegal aliens who managed to avoid getting flagged or who were enrolled in Virginia’s state-funded programs rather than the federal one.
Don't tell Governor WhiteWitch, but those 300,000 criminals are only Virginians until ICE catches and deports them. https://t.co/pACCF4HFRT

Fairfax County is worth noting specifically. Half of the murders in that county are committed by illegal aliens. The same population Spanberger is protecting on Medicaid rolls is the population committing violent crimes that Virginia’s sanctuary-adjacent governance refuses to hand over to ICE.
The work requirements themselves deserve to be understood clearly. If you are an able-bodied adult, you are now required to demonstrate that you’re working, seeking work, or participating in a qualifying education or training program to maintain Medicaid eligibility. This is not a cruel new restriction. It is the basic principle that a program funded by working Americans should serve people who cannot work — not people who simply choose not to.
The fraudsters category needs no defense of removing them from the rolls. If you’re defrauding Medicaid, you should lose Medicaid. That is not a policy point that requires a 500-word explanation.
Spanberger ran as a moderate. She governs as a left-wing defender of illegal alien welfare access, Medicaid fraud, and able-bodied adults who refuse to meet any work requirement whatsoever. She just accidentally confirmed 300,000 illegal aliens are on Virginia’s Medicaid rolls. ICE now has the governor’s own statement to work with. She should have thought that through before posting.
