We already know the Democratic Socialists of America (the name is misleading – you can’t be ‘democratic’ and ‘socialist’ at the same time) want to abolish the Senate, subjugate the presidency to a ‘people’s Congress,’ and neuter the Supreme Court, all of which would render the U.S. Constitution moot. But there’s something even worse – sinister, in fact – on the DSA platform that virtually no one is talking about.
And while people are focused on the DSA wanting to abolish the Senate, defund the Pentagon, and empty the prisons, understandabl, Florida ‘Democratic’ Senate nominee Angie Nixon has a proposal on her own campaign website that deserves far more attention than it’s getting — because it represents the most direct threat to private property and personal freedom on the entire DSA policy menu.
Nixon wants a national wealth registry. What is that? It’s a centralized federal database containing information about how much you own, what you are worth, and every asset you possess — your house, your paintings, your car, your couch, your savings — so the IRS can calculate a 5% annual wealth tax on everything you have, every year, regardless of whether you’ve earned any income that year.
Manhattan Institute economist Daniel Di Martino, who escaped the socialist hell that his home country of Venezuela has become, explained what this actually means in practice: “You and I are going to have to tell the IRS not only the value of our house, but the value of our paintings, the value of our couch, the value of our cars so that the IRS can tie it all up and then tell us how much we owe in taxes to our dear federal government. This is how socialism works. You will own nothing and then you will be happy.”
No one is talking about the worst and most dangerous policy proposal of any socialist candidate yet.

The deliberate vagueness of Nixon’s proposal is itself a warning sign. Who exactly would be placed in this registry? Just billionaires? Millionaires? Anyone the government decides has accumulated slightly too much success? Nixon doesn’t say. Americans are supposed to be comforted by the idea of building a specific list of everyone the government thinks has too much, and exactly what they have, without knowing where that list ends.
The second major dishonesty is treating tax avoidance and tax evasion as the same problem. The wealthy generally don’t evade taxes — they hire lawyers and accountants to use the loopholes that Congress has spent decades building into the tax code. The solution to that is simplifying the tax code. Nixon’s solution is to give the IRS more power, create another federal database, and assure everyone it will only be used against the right people — a promise every government making this argument in history has eventually broken.
A wealth registry is not just a tax mechanism. It is an inventory of everything you own, held by a government that can decide at any point to seize more of it. Every country that has implemented comprehensive wealth registries has used them as a precursor to more aggressive confiscation. The registry is the infrastructure. The confiscation comes later.
This proposal is not fringe within the DSA. Angie Nixon just won a Florida primary. The ideas travel with the candidates.
The abolish-the-Senate headline gets the clicks. The wealth registry is where the actual power grab lives. Every American who owns anything should know it’s on the table.
