“That person’s going home to mom. Gonna get scolded because mom is voting for us. You know, mom is voting for us.” Then he went back to his speech.

“If we lose, you’re going to lose your border, you’re going to lose your tax cuts, you’re gonna lose everything that we’ve done. They’re going to impeach me, they have no idea why.”

That last line — they’re going to impeach me, they have no idea why — is both funny and accurate. House Democrats have already been open about their plans if they retake the majority. Investigations. Subpoenas. Impeachment proceedings predicated on whatever the caucus decides sounds good on cable television. They don’t need a reason. They need a majority.

Which is why the South Carolina rally matters. Darline Graham is running to hold the seat her brother occupied for 24 years — the seat he was pushing for on the night he died. South Carolina Republicans who show up August 25 are voting to keep the Senate seat that Lindsey Graham gave his last phone call to protect.
