A CNN Guest Called Fauci a ‘Sociopath’ on Live Television and the Panel Meltdown Was One For the Ages

Caroline Sunshine walked onto a CNN panel Friday night and said what millions of Americans have been thinking since they read Anthony Fauci’s diary.

“Forget about prosecuting Fauci — the guy should be in a mental institution. He’s a textbook sociopath.”

The CNN panel lost its collective mind. Chief rantist and host Abby Phillip demanded to know what Sunshine was talking about. “He should be in a mental institution for having an ego?” she asked. Sunshine was ready: “Let me read the diary entries for you, verbatim.”

What followed was one of the more remarkable moments in recent cable news history. Sunshine laid out the DSM-5 characteristics of a sociopath — low empathy, ability to inflict pain on innocents, narcissism — and then pointed directly at Fauci’s own writings for the evidence. While Americans were prohibited from visiting dying loved ones in hospitals, while children were barred from seeing grandparents, while small businesses were being destroyed by the lockdowns Fauci championed — the man running the pandemic response was writing in his diary about how hot the media was for him, how many interviews he was doing, how many articles had been written about him.

That’s what he was writing about during the pandemic, Sunshine told the panel. The Fauch wrote: ‘The media is so hot for me, I’ve had so many interviews, so many articles written about me.’

CNN: What?!

SUNSHINE: DSM-5 level sociopath running our pandemic response. Low empathy. Ability to inflict pain on innocents. Narcissism.

The clinical term for Sunshine’s diagnosis may or may not be appropriate — but the underlying behavioral observation is hard to dismiss. A man who knew the vaccinated could get COVID but said otherwise publicly. A man who knew lab leak was a credible theory but worked to suppress it. A man who coerced federal workers to win cash prizes for him. A man who suffered a pulmonary infarction after vaccination and hid it while publicly dismissing similar concerns from Americans. A man who ordered emails deleted about COVID origins. A man who kept 1,000 pages of diary entries cataloguing his own celebrity during the worst public health crisis in a century.

If that’s not narcissism as a governing pathology, it’s a very persuasive approximation of one.

The other notable moment from the same panel: Sarah Matthews — former Trump White House press secretary turned reliable media contrarian — said she was “happy” that the Iranians know how allegedly weak America is after a reported munitions leak. The president of the United States called the leak treasonous. The people responsible are being hunted by federal investigators. And a former White House staffer went on CNN to say she’s happy adversaries have the information.

That’s not a profile in courage. That’s a profile in exactly the kind of turncoat behavior that makes people trust Washington insiders less every year. That is weapons-grade lack of self-awareness.

Back to Fauci. The diary is real. The contempt vote happened. The phone has 34,000 texts and three contacts. The state investigation in Florida is active.

The sociopath debate can wait. The accountability cannot.
