Mike Rowe Got 7,600 Angry Comments for Posting Bill Maher’s Rant Against the DSA Clip — His Response Was Flawless

“Dirty Jobs” host and tech school supporter Mike Rowe shared a video of Bill Maher last Friday calling out Democrats for welcoming communists into their party. He added a simple suggestion: Democrats should speak out loudly and clearly against an ideology that has been proven, demonstrably, to be a really bad idea.

Seven thousand six hundred people came after him. He responded to every argument. He won every one.

Here’s the Maher video segment:

Now, the exchanges Rowe engaged in is worth preserving because Rowe does something that conservative politicians almost never do — he dismantles the left’s arguments with precision and patience, one at a time, without losing his temper or his humor.

When Shelley reminded him there’s a difference between socialism and communism, Rowe made the key point that cuts through all the semantic games: he doesn’t need to make that distinction because the DSA candidates he’s referring to are making it for him. “More than a few have called for the complete dismantling of capitalism, free markets, representative government, property rights, borders, police, prisons, and the Constitution in general.” That’s not socialism with a friendly face. That’s the end destination of communism, whatever you call the road to get there.

Not the way I planned on spending my afternoon, but 7,600 comments should not be ignored! Bots, trolls and personal attacks notwithstanding, the critics of yesterday’s post were dominated by a large and vocal contingent who rushed to remind me that there’s “a difference between… pic.twitter.com/UpGqqLBa2j

When Tracey accused him of “spouting communism” like it’s the 1950s, Rowe pointed out the obvious: he’s not the one using the word. The DSA members are. He’s quoting them. The director of the NYC Mayor’s Office said “we need to elect more communists.” Mamdani himself tweeted a direct quote from the Communist Manifesto. Rowe is simply taking people at their word.

When John Engles tried the familiar Nazi-Trump equivalence to deflect, Rowe made the point that every honest person already knows: Trump has never claimed to be a Nazi or a fascist. He rejects the label. DSA communists, by contrast, embrace their label openly and proudly. Whether you believe Trump’s denial is your business. The communists require no such inference. They’re shouting it loudly and proudly to describe themselves.

The response to Beto Ojeda’s “McCarthyism” accusation was the most devastating of all. McCarthyism meant dragging private citizens before Congress, making them swear loyalty oaths, destroying careers with unproven accusations. Today’s DSA communists run for office with a governor’s endorsement. They go on Fox News and confirm their platform. They win primary races. Nobody is being persecuted. They’re being elected. Invoking McCarthy to defend people who are voluntarily and publicly identifying as communists is not a defense. It’s a historical category error.

Rowe’s closing argument is the one that should be nailed to every Republican campaign office in the country: this is not a complicated choice. If Democrats disavow the communists and say their tent isn’t that big, they gain credibility with independents. If they don’t — if they welcome the communists — then November becomes a simple binary. A party that disavows communism versus a party that doesn’t.

He’s not rooting for that outcome. He says so explicitly. He would prefer a functional Democratic Party that believes America is fundamentally good.

Watching what’s happening in Michigan today, he may not get that wish.
