The Democratic Establishment Just Conceded the Party to the DSA — and They Don’t Even Know It

Watch what Michigan Democratic Rep. Debbie Dingell did on Fox News Monday and understand exactly what it means.

Bill Hemmer asked her point blank: Democratic Socialists of America-backed U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed has said Israel does not have a right to exist. Can you support that? Dingell, who was a Republican until 1981, said no. Hemmer followed up: then how can you endorse him? Dingell’s answer was a masterpiece of establishment capitulation: “I have told Abdul exactly what I think.” Then she pledged to endorse the entire Democratic ticket.

She told him what she thinks. He hasn’t changed what he believes. She’s endorsing him anyway.

Democrat Rep. Debbie Dingell disavows Abdul El-Sayed's platform but still supports him.

Jonathan Turley nailed the diagnosis: “It is part of the delusion of the establishment that they can use these radicals to regain power but remain untouched.”

…Hemmer continued to press Dingell, who was reduced to simply denouncing "labels" while shrugging off that El-Sayed is attacking borders, cops, and Israel. It is part of the delusion of the establishment that they can use these radicals to regain power but remain untouched.…

That’s the entire Democratic establishment strategy in one sentence. Let the DSA bring the energy. Let Hasan Piker and the socialists drive turnout. Win the majority. Then somehow reassert control over a caucus that just watched the establishment capitulate on every principle it claimed to hold.

It won’t work. It never has. And Michigan’s primary Tuesday is about to prove why.

El-Sayed — backed by Piker, the DSA, and the full weight of the socialist infrastructure that has been systematically taking over Democratic primaries — appears on track to win the Michigan Senate nomination. His platform: defund the police, Israel doesn’t have a right to exist, DSA-aligned socialism across the board. His chief backer openly stated their goal is communism. The DSA co-chair confirmed on Fox News that the organization wants to abolish the Senate, the presidency, the Supreme Court, the military budget, and prisons.

And Debbie Dingell pledged to work for his election.

The “big tent” talking point that the Democratic establishment has been deploying is exactly as revealing as it sounds. When your big tent includes candidates who want to abolish the institutions that make the tent possible, you don’t have a big tent. You have a party that has already lost control of its own direction and is managing the optics of that loss as gracefully as it can.

There is no graceful way to manage this. The DSA isn’t interested in being managed. They don’t want a seat at the table. They want the table. And they’ve been winning the primaries that get them there — in New York, Colorado, California, and now Michigan — with a consistency that the establishment has not been able to interrupt through endorsements, DCCC spending, or Debbie Dingell telling Abdul El-Sayed what she thinks.

If El-Sayed wins in November, the DSA’s next move isn’t gratitude. It’s escalation. More primaries. More takeovers. More of the same until the establishment is irrelevant inside its own party.

Dingell conceded the fight without knowing she’d done it. The DSA knows exactly what it did.

That asymmetry is the whole story.
