As our readers know, we’ve been pressuring Republicans to, you know, be Republicans and get the SAVE America Act passed. Our side wants stricter voting rules in place. Most Democrats do, too. Poll after poll shows that voters in both parties want this. If ever there was a legislative lay-up for the win, it’s passing this bill.
President Trump has been pressing for its passage as well because he knows the bill will make it much harder for Democrats in blue states to cheat.
And yet…it’s not been passed. Why? One word: “RINOs.”
Yes, four cursed RINOs in the Senate have reared their ugly, petulant, butt-hurt, TDS-addled heads and are preventing the measure from being passed. RINO ringleader and Senate Majority Leader John Thune won’t apply the considerable pressure he has (think withholding campaign funds for reelections) on at least two of the holdouts – Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine, the latter of whom is running for reelection this year.
So, is this legislation just dead in the water, killed by Trump Derangement Syndrome?
Not so fast. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is coming to the rescue. He told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo on Sunday that the GOP majority in the House is fixing to pass the bill for a fourth time. Oh, and it will be attached to a reconcilation bill so it won’t need to meet the arcane 60-vote filibuster-proof threshold (Republicans won’t get rid of that outdated rule, either):

The bill package aims to ensure that only citizens vote in federal elections by showing proof of citizenship when registering to vote and by showing a valid ID before voting.
Johnson told Fox News that Republicans will try to place the package in a reconciliation bill to avoid the required 60 votes in the Senate.
“I told the President, I don’t have any tattoos, but if I did, it’d say ‘SAVE AMERICA’ on my shoulder. Okay, we passed it three times in the House already. We’re going to pass it AGAIN.”
Johnson said that these are “90-10” public issues.
Earlier in June, four Senate Republicans – Sens. Thom Tillis (R-NC), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Susan Collins (R-ME) – joined Democrats to vote against the bill. Two of these clowns – McConnell and Tillis – are outta here come January. And good riddance.
Time’s a-wasting, as voter integrity activist Scott Presler has warned:
? JUST IN: Scott Presler reveals that if the U.S. Senate doesn’t pass the SAVE America Act by August 8th, IT CAN’T TAKE EFFECT FOR THE MIDTERMS
“The Senate returns from vacation on July 13th. The Senate goes on vacation — again — beginning August 8th.”

A vast majority of people want photo ID requirements to vote. Indiana did it first and we’ve proven it works. A vast majority of people also want proof of citizenship to vote. None of this should be complicated. It’s all commonsense. Congress must pass the Save America Act! https://t.co/qK25Uf42Bd

There’s still no guarantee that even as a reconciliation bill the SAVE America Act will finally get through the GOP-controlled Senate. But it’s better than trying to jump the filibuster hurdle.
Let’s get it done, guys and gals. Most Americans want it. The fact that it’s not been passed yet is beyond outrageous.
