The Democrats’ Money Laundering…Er…’Fundraising Platform’ ActBlue Is In Big Trouble

We’ve covered the shady business practices of ActBlue, the Democrat Party’s main fundraising platform, in the past. Let’s just say that the folks who run it are probably headed for some substantial jail time if the allegations of fraudulent and foreign transactions can be proven.

Are those allegations true? We don’t know yet, and despite the Committee on House Administration’s efforts to find out earlier today, we still don’t know. That’s because ActBlue’s arrogant CEO, Regina Wallace-Jones, repeatedly invoked her 5th Amendment right against self-incrimination when asked to clear things up.

ActBlue is used by the Democratic National Committee (DNC), its state affiliates, individual candidates, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), political action committees (PACs), and generally any group engaged in progressive politics and activism.

It is estimated that ActBlue has processed billions of dollars in donations for its thousands of left-wing Democrat clients. Republicans in Congress, as well as several state attorneys general, have raised concerns regarding how and from whom ActBlue is accepting these donations.

Particularly troubling is the growing evidence suggesting that ActBlue has engaged in “smurfing” and is knowingly accepting foreign donations, both of which are illegal practices:

Smurfing is defined as “a money-laundering technique involving the structuring of large amounts of cash into multiple small transactions.”

If that wasn’t bad enough, ActBlue has now notified Congress that, until September of this year, they didn’t block donations made by foreign entities using gift cards. This brings up questions over whether countries like China, Russia, Venezuela, or Iran could have poured money into the Democrat Party’s campaign coffers intending to influence the outcome of the presidential race.

Republican Rep. Bryan Steil (WI-01), who is chairman of the committee, kicked things off at Wednesday’s hearing by stating that Ms. Wallace-Jones had been called to appear because “there’s a significant concern that ActBlue may have allowed foreign donations on their platform, lied to Congress, and withheld responsive documents from a Congressional subpoena.” He continued, “All three of these things are illegal.”

When confronted, Wallace-Jones refused to discuss anything, instead reading a statement prepared by legal counsel:

In April, ActBlue staffers were called before the committee and invoked the 5th Amendment more than 150 times. Clearly they’ve all got something to hide.

Also in April, it appeared that officials misled Congress about vetting foreign donations. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that investigating allegations against ActBlue was a top priority for his Department of Justice, as we noted.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has also filed a massive lawsuit against the platform for allegedly deceiving Americans.

In addition, the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees have been investigating the platform. They noted last year they “found that ActBlue, the Left’s leading online fundraising platform, weakened its fraud-prevention standards ahead of the 2024 election.”

The Committee also noted that when internal ActBlue documents were released and allegations of fraud hit shortly after President Trump began his second term last year, that “every member of ActBlue’s legal and compliance team quit, was fired, or went on extended leave.”

This has all been years in the making. Investigative journalist James O’Keefe was on this three years ago. He was onto what appears to be the platform’s smurfing ops:

In an op-ed published in the Washington Post a couple of hours before her testimony (how convenient), Wallace-Jones wrote:

The right to remain silent was not written for the innocent in easy circumstances. It was written for moments exactly like this one — when Congress and the Justice Department work in coordination to tear down their political opponents rather than find facts, when committees refuse to recognize fundamental legal protections, and when answering questions freely means handing ammunition to people who are acting in bad faith.

I lead an organization that processed $3.5 billion in contributions in 2024, with an average donation amount of $50 or less — many from first-time donors who simply wanted a voice. I owe it to every single one of them to fight back. The Fifth Amendment is the right tool for this moment. It is a bedrock American tool, built for when power overreaches.

Today, I will use it.

Talking about “overreach” is nothing more than her attempt to paint the GOP-controlled committee as the bad guys and take the heat off her and ActBlue. But her optics are horrible. Here we had the CEO of the company sit before Congress and refuse to say whether she lied, whether the platform accepted illegal money, or took foreign cash to use in U.S. elections.

That’s not the ‘transparency’ that Democrats claim they care about when trying to “save democracy.”
