You just know Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is sitting in his office reading stuff about the brewing Democrat civil war in his state and laughing his you-know-what off.
Because if I were him, that’s exactly what I’d be doing.
Here’s the story.
You know how Democrats care more about black people than Republicans do or some such thing. Well, turns out that’s not really true. Okay, it’s never really been true, but we’re beginning to see more of the party’s hypocrisy on this issue now that black-majority congressional districts have been deemed unconstitutional.
First, a little history. You recall that DeSantis pressed the GOP majority in the Sunshine State to redistrict. They did that willingly. And if the new map survives court challenges (it should) then Republicans are gonna nab another four seats from Dems.
One of the districts impacted was District 25, which longtime Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz currently represents. That district will be far more GOP-friendly under the new map, so Wasserman Schultz had a decision to make.
On Friday, she announced it, and it has infuriated black Democrats in the state.
Speculation had been brewing for weeks that Wasserman Schultz would switch districts and run for the open seat in District 20, which was previously held by the disgraced former Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D).
However, District 20 is a majority-minority district, and several black Democratic candidates who have already declared their intentions to run for the seat have openly advised the former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee to steer clear of it.
Welp, she ignored them and on Friday, she made sure to have a picture of Obama in the background when she announced she was running:

The announcement was not well received by some candidates already in the race. Elijah Manley, a self-described “organizer” and activist, boldly accused her of attempting to take a seat that he believed should remain with a black Democrat.
He wrote the following statement on X:
Debbie Wasserman Schultz is carpetbagging to FL-20, a black opportunity district instead of running in her own. DWS is everything that’s wrong with the Democratic establishment. From insider trading to payday lenders. I look forward to retiring her from public office permanently.
Later, of course, he broke out the ‘Jim Crow’ accusations because of course he did:
Debbie Wasserman Schultz is no different than those Jim Crow Republicans across the south that are wiping out African-American opportunity districts.
But she Definitely Won’t Succeed.

What is extremely hilarious in all of this is that Cherfilus-McCormick is running for the seat again, too, though she’s under indictment for fraud.
Democrat civil wars are always fun things to watch. I’m guessing DeSantis is having a whale of a time.
