One of my biggest complaints about the GOP over the years is that we didn’t have a lot of fighters among our ranks. Donald Trump changed that in a big way. His no-holds-barred approach to politics and getting his agenda through was the best thing to happen to Republicans in generations.
That said, too many Republicans still have a tendency to avoid confrontation with the Domestic Terrorist Party, even when they absolutely need to be confronted. But it’s possible that Trump’s natural combativeness is rubbing off on more Republicans, and frankly, it’s about time. We need more fighters.
So it was a breath of fresh air to see how Tennessee Republicans responded to the childish insanity demonstrated by Democrats last week when the state Legislature voted to redistrict out the last Democrat-held seat currently occupied by goofball white guy Steve Cohen:
Actions and behaviors can have consequences — sometimes dramatically so.
Just ask the Democratic caucus members in Tennessee.
Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton dropped a bombshell on them Tuesday, announcing that the Democrats faced imminent expulsion from all committees and subcommittees.
The Federalist’s Sean Davis summed it up this way (my emphasis added):
BREAKING: Notice has just been given to Democrats in the Tennessee House that all members of the Democrat Caucus are being removed from all standing committees and subcommittees as a result of their behavior in the statehouse during the redistricting debates last week, which included setting fires inside the Capitol and attacking law enforcement. In the state of Tennessee, political terrorism will not be tolerated. National Republicans take note that this is how you exercise power.

Sexton’s letter to House Democrat Leader Karen Camper noted:
“Due to actions taken by members of the Democratic Caucus during the Second Extraordinary Session of the 114th General Assembly aimed at disrupting the democratic and legislative process and creating disorder on the House Floor …
Members of the Democratic Caucus will receive individual level letters removing them from all standing committees and subcommittees of the House, except where membership is required pursuant to Rule 65 of the House Rules.”
“Interlocking arms in the well of the House,” “Blocking aisles on the House Floor,” and “Instigating and encouraging disruptions of the legislative process in coordination with paid protesters,” were among the reasons listed by Sexton for the removals.
As Davis noted, this ‘Sexton Solution’ is exactly how Republicans in all states and on the national level should exercise their power because, without a doubt, today’s Democrats legitimately are nothing more than domestic terrorists who should be treated as such at every opportunity.
