Come on, you knew this was coming after the attack on the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner on Saturday night. Cole Allen, 31, from Torrance, California, attempted to storm the event at the Washington Hilton armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and two knives. He sprinted past security checkpoints but never reached the ballroom. Gunfire was exchanged, but he was not injured. Allen was later arrested by the police. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other high-ranking Trump officials and cabinet members were quickly evacuated from the venue by the Secret Service.

We don’t know the shooter’s motive at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner tonight. His target could have been Trump, but it could just as easily have been a member of the media.

Why are we assuming the shooter was targeting the president? Consider the language that’s been repeated about the press:
“Enemy of the people.”
“Corrupt media.”
“Activist journalists.”

The media had the audacity to suggest that anyone could have been a target in this shooting. Are they serious? Anyone with common sense understood that it was Trump officials who were specifically targeted. Cole was a resident of California, a state sometimes criticized for hosting Nazis. Okay, I’m being sarcastic (somewhat – the state does host legit fascists). The press even tried to make the situation about themselves, implying that maybe journalists were the intended targets. Why would that be the case? No one knows who they are. As it turned out, while in custody, Allen admitted that his targets were indeed Trump administration officials:

Cole was reportedly a guest at the hotel. It seems that the media has taken another loss on this one—what else is new? Their garbage reporting may have contributed to inciting another unstable individual to commit an act of terrorism.
