A breaking report this afternoon reveals that the Justice Department (DOJ) is set to announce an investigation into allegations made by several women against Eric Swalwell, the former California congressman and Democratic gubernatorial candidate. These women have accused him of committing acts of sexual assault and sexual misconduct.
This is not the first investigation into these allegations. Readers may recall that the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in New York recently opened an investigation into a separate sexual assault allegation:
On Saturday, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office announced it has launched an investigation into a sexual assault allegation against Rep. Swalwell, according to multiple outlets:
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said on Saturday it is investigating an allegation of sexual assault against Rep. Eric Swalwell, a day after CNN reported that a former staffer for the congressman accused him of having sex with her when she was unable to consent.
In a statement to CNN, the DA’s office said, “We urge survivors and anyone with knowledge of these allegations to contact our Special Victims Division at 212-335-9373.”
It continued: “Our specially trained prosecutors, investigators and counselors are well-equipped to help you in a trauma-informed, survivor-centered manner.”
So far, the number of women has grown to five, and here’s what we know:
The Department of Justice is investigating the multiple sexual assault allegations against former California Rep. Eric Swalwell, a source familiar with the matter confirmed to Fox News Digital.
Within the last few weeks, Swalwell has been accused by five different women of sexual assault and harassment over the last several years.
The string of allegations includes that he allegedly drugged and raped one woman and sexually assaulted one of his staffers, which have spurred at least two local criminal investigations. He has denied all the allegations, but has admitted to making mistakes.
In addition, reports said that the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office has also opened an investigation. We’ll keep you posted on this.
