Even as the Trump administration triples down on its efforts to mass deport tens of millions of illegal migrants allowed into the country during President Joe Autopen’s regime, House Republicans are doing their share to hold “sanctuary state” governors accountable for their part in the invasion.
The House Oversight Committee is ramping up its investigation into sanctuary state policies, with three Democratic governors preparing to take the spotlight. On Tuesday, Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) announced that Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and New York Governor Kathy Hochul are scheduled to testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on June 12. The hearing will center on the governors’ sanctuary policies and their states’ refusal to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement efforts.
“Sanctuary policies only provide sanctuaries for criminal illegal aliens,” Chairman Comer said in a statement. “Former President Biden created the worst border crisis in U.S. history and allowed criminal illegal aliens to flood our communities. President Trump has ended this crisis and now we have the most secure borders in decades.” Comer added that while the Trump administration works to rid the country of those here illegally, governors like this trio are doing all they can to stop that from happening. “These governors must explain why they are prioritizing the protection of criminal illegal aliens over the safety of U.S. citizens, and they must be held accountable,” he said.
The June 12 hearing is the latest step in Chairman James Comer’s ongoing effort to scrutinize what he calls reckless sanctuary policies. In January, the House Oversight Committee launched a formal investigation into jurisdictions that restrict cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Comer argues that these cities and states are selectively enforcing federal laws—often at the expense of public safety.
“The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is continuing to investigate sanctuary jurisdictions across the United States and their impact on public safety and the effectiveness of federal efforts to enforce the immigration laws of the United States,” Comer said to Fox News. “Sanctuary jurisdictions and their obstructionist policies hinder the ability of federal law enforcement officers to effectuate safe arrests and remove dangerous criminals from American communities. This threatens Americans’ safety.”
With a little luck for conservatives, one or all three of these Democratic leaders will perjure themselves and then Attorney General Pam Bondi can charge them. That sounds harsh, but considering the number of Americans killed during Biden’s open borders regime, perp-walking a couple of 2028 Democratic presidential hopefuls would be at least some justice.
