If you watch as much polling as we do, you have seen President Donald Trump’s approval numbers fluctuate wildly over the past couple of weeks, with the most dismal numbers, oh-so-ironically, dropping on his 100th day in office. Most show what seems to be a disturbing drop-off in approval and popularity, again just 100 days into his second term. One poll, from CNN, not surprisingly, claimed Trump’s approval is the lowest for any president at this point in his term in 70 years.
That gave the lefty media and Democrats a great talking point, which, it turns out, was likely the entire point. This ‘polling’ is just a mirage, says former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. It’s the latest media-driven false narrative to give The Potty Mouth Party some ammunition to fire back at Trump, who has been engaged in political shock-and-awe, flooding the zone with executive orders and significant domestic and foreign policy actions after he hit the ground running in late January.
On Hannity, Gingrich praised Trump’s recent commencement address at the University of Alabama, contrasting it with what he described as Kamala Harris’ “goofy” and “chaotic” speech. “Look, this may have been the most cruel thing I’ve ever seen you do,” Gingrich joked to host Sean Hannity. “You go from a live shot of Donald Trump surrounded by thousands of people hanging on his every word to the pathetic, chaotic, confused, clearly addled former Vice President of the United States.”
Gingrich stated that Trump’s address reminded everyone why the president continues to be a significant cultural and political influence. “It wasn’t political. It was about having faith in yourself. It was about persevering. It was about things that every young person should be learning,” he said. “That’s why I think Trump will be historically far more than just a political figure.”
It wasn’t just about speeches; Gingrich and Hannity focused on new polling numbers expected to be released this week. Hannity previewed these numbers as revealing the “false” narrative perpetuated by corporate media outlets. “All of the polls that the media has been pushing on the American people about Donald Trump are false,” Hannity said. “All of those people, the ones that say, ‘Oh, he’s plummeting’… they’re ignoring [that] Chuck is at 17 percent and the Democrats are in the 20s.”
Gingrich didn’t mince words. “Well, I mean, first of all, they’re just plain lying. And I think we’ve got to be tougher and clearer about how dishonest these people are,” he said. He mentioned discussions with pollsters John McLaughlin and Matt Towery, who informed him that some recent polls included only 27% Republican respondents, even though Trump received approximately 50% of the vote.
“If you add the 23 points they didn’t test, suddenly he’s in great shape. This is deliberate. It is willful,” Gingrich said. “There are three great centers of resistance: the propaganda media, which will lie all the time; the fake district judges; and the fake Congressional Budget Office. Those are the last three great centers of resistance, and they’re going to do anything they can to defeat Trump and the Republicans, including lying about virtually everything.”
Gingrich, who spent decades in and around Washington, knows what’s going on: The only thing Democrats can muster against Trump at this point in history is to woo their dwindling supporters with propaganda. Pretty pathetic, even for them.
