Dems Join Forces To Plot Against Musk, DOGE

Just days after facing a wave of backlash from millions of outraged liberal activists nationwide, House Democrats have outlined a plan to assert congressional oversight over the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Two Democratic lawmakers have teamed up to introduce legislation that would compel DOGE to reveal its internal operations—ranging from a full personnel registry to detailed justifications for the mass termination of federal employees. For now, however, the effort appears largely symbolic, as Republicans maintain majority control of the House.

Still, the move underscores the mounting pressure on Democrats as they scramble to push back against the cost-cutting agency created by President Donald Trump and advisor Elon Musk. During Saturday’s nationwide “Hands Off” protests, millions of left-leaning demonstrators directed their frustration not only at Republicans, but also at Democratic lawmakers—accusing them of failing to mount a stronger defense in Congress against DOGE’s sweeping actions.

The bill, titled the “DOGE Accountability and Transparency Act,” is being introduced by Reps. Brad Schneider (D-IL) and Stephen Lynch (D-MA), Axios reports. It would require DOGE to “provide weekly reports to Congress regarding changes DOGE has made to any Federal agency and the realized impacts of such changes, and for other purposes,” according to the bill’s text. In separate statements, Schneider and Lynch criticized Trump and Musk for their blunt approach to cutting the federal budget.

“We should not allow Elon Musk to recklessly take a chainsaw to our federal government; he must answer to Congress and provide real, regular updates on DOGE’s actions,” Schneider wrote in announcing their bill. “We cannot let President Trump’s version of ‘Wreck-it-Ralph’ distract us while Elon Musk continues to gut agencies that are responsible for providing American families with essential needs and services,” Lynch said.

The proposed legislation would also require DOGE to provide a comprehensive accounting of all employee terminations, budget reductions, policy changes, physical modifications to federal buildings, agency relocations, and any data accessed by its personnel, according to the outlet. If passed, the five-page bill would mandate DOGE to submit its first report within one week, detailing all activities undertaken since the beginning of President Trump’s second term. It was obviously lost on the two Democrats that the essence of their bill – piling on another layer of bureaucracy and oversight, thus adding to government expenses – is the entire point of Musk’s DOGE team: Cutting such wasteful tendencies.
