New York City Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez responded to President Donald Trump’s claims on Tuesday regarding a possible U.S. takeover of the Gaza Strip, which included promoting an absurd conspiracy theory. “It is horrific. It is the definition of ‘ethnic cleansing.’ It is part of the culmination of–what I view–to be genocide of the Palestinian people. This is genuinely one of the most horrific humanitarian catastrophes…in modern history,” AOC said, per the Daily Caller.
On Tuesday, the President announced that the U.S. would “take over” the Gaza Strip in an effort to bring an end to the ongoing conflict between Israel and the radical Islamic terrorist organization Hamas. Trump stood alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a press conference in the East Room, following a meeting in the Oval Office to discuss the next steps for Palestine and Israel. During the briefing, Trump described the Gaza Strip as an “unlucky place for a long time,” noting that it has been a “symbol of death and destruction for so many decades.”

Later during the event, Trump proclaimed that the region would “have peace,” adding that the only reason that Palestinians want to go back there is because they don’t have anywhere else to go. “They’re living under fallen concrete that’s very dangerous and very precarious. They instead can occupy all of a beautiful area with homes and safety, and they can live out their lives in peace and harmony instead of having to go back and do it again,” Trump continued. “The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it, too.”
“We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous, unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site, level the site, and get rid of the destroyed buildings, level it out, create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area, do a real job, do something different. Just can’t go back,” Trump explained. “If you go back, it’s going to end up the same way it has for 100 years,” the president added.
