Presidential candidate Kamala Harris is launching her bid for the presidency from a significant disadvantage stemming from the question of her awareness of President Joe Biden’s physical and mental deterioration. A fresh survey conducted on Thursday reveals that over nine out of ten Americans think she was involved in White House initiatives aimed at concealing the indications of these issues.
The survey by YouGov and the Times of London included 1,170 registered voters. The majority of respondents were convinced that the vice president collaborated with Dr. Jill Biden and high-ranking officials to plot to maintain the 81-year-old’s position on the ballot until it became nearly unmanageable. The New York Post provided more information about the survey. It was conducted for two days right after President Biden announced on Sunday that he was not running for a second term. On Wednesday evening, he gave a hesitant speech from the Oval Office, which effectively acted as a farewell address to the nation.
A remarkable 92% of those surveyed think Harris was aware to some extent of the president’s declining mental faculties, which came to light following his horrendous debate against former President Trump on June 27th. The resulting scandal engulfed him, forcing the White House to be on constant guard as leading Democrats pressured the president to resign. The new survey statistics further reveal that over two-thirds of voters thought Harris knew a “great deal” about Biden’s weaknesses, with 78% of Republicans, 73% of independents, and 82% of those identifying as conservatives believed Harris played a key role in hiding these truths.
Only 17% of those surveyed believe that Harris was “somewhat” knowledgeable about Biden’s struggles, while 7% say she was “a little” involved in hiding them. Astonishingly, only 22% of Democrats believe she had a great deal to do with concealing the truth about the embattled 81-year-old president.
According to the survey, 58% of Democrats and 64% of self-identified liberals believe that Harris was urging the White House to conceal President Biden’s declining health. Additionally, 20% of Democrats and 21% of liberals think she knew “a little” about the plan, while only 12% of Democrats and 7% of liberals believe she knew nothing at all.
Former President Barack Obama initially held off endorsing Harris’ presidential campaign, citing his belief that she is unlikely to defeat Trump, according to a source familiar with the Biden family. In the wake of Biden’s abrupt withdrawal from the race and his swift support for Vice President Kamala Harris, the majority of Democratic leaders have swiftly rallied behind her candidacy. However, Obama stands out as a notable exception thus far, the New York Post reports.
“Obama’s very upset because he knows she can’t win,” the Biden family source told The Post. “Obama knows she’s just incompetent — the border czar who never visited the border, saying that all migrants should have health insurance. She cannot navigate the landmines that are ahead of her. When you are running for president, there are things you can and can’t say.” Obama did, however, endorse Harris on Friday.
As for the disastrous debate performance, The Post was the first to report that it was part of an “elaborate set-up” designed to remove him from the race. However, the source does not hold high expectations for a televised debate between Trump and Harris. When Biden was still in the race, a second debate was scheduled for September 10. That said, Fox News has reached out to the Trump and Harris campaigns and has offered to host a debate between the two.
“Wait until the debate … She can’t debate. She’s going to put her foot in her mouth about Israel, Palestine, Ukraine. She’s going to say something really stupid,” the source told The Post. “Obama knew this was going to happen, Joe knew this was going to happen. Now she is going to have to answer real questions.”
According to the source, Obama’s goal was to remove Biden from the equation, and George Clooney’s op-ed in the New York Times urging Biden to step down was a component of this strategy. However, the senior figures within the Democratic Party did not anticipate Biden’s immediate endorsement of Harris. As the insider revealed to The Post, “Obama was shocked” when the president backed her.
