Former President Donald Trump has accused FBI Director Christopher Wray of “lying to Congress” regarding his knowledge of President Biden’s cognitive and physical decline, calling for Wray’s resignation. Trump directed his anger towards Wray, 57, after he testified before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, stating that he meets with the 81-year-old president infrequently and has not noticed any significant decline in Biden’s mental and physical health.
“I don’t meet with him very often, but what you’re describing is not something that I’ve observed during my interactions with him,” the FBI director said after being questioned by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), the New York Post reported. Wray went on to describe his meeting with Biden as “uneventful and unremarkable.”
Trump hired Wray to become FBI director after firing James Comey in 2017 shortly after taking office. Subsequent reports indicated that Comey had a role in the ‘Russian collusion’ hoax perpetuated against Trump during his 2016 campaign and beyond. In a Truth Social post, Trump gashed Wray for “sweet-talking” the House committee.
“I watched the Congressional Hearing today as Christopher Wray was asked the question whether or not he noticed any Cognitive Degeneration in his many conversations with Crooked Joe Biden,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“[D]espite the fact that Special Counsel Robert Hur said, effectively, that Joe Biden is INCOMPETENT, with LITTLE MEMORY, etc., Wray said that ‘it is not something I observed during my interactions with him, which were uneventful and unremarkable,’ essentially stating that he found nothing wrong, mentally or physically, with ‘Joe,’” the former president continued. “If that is the case, Director Wray should resign immediately from the FBI,” Trump demanded.
The former president argued that “anybody can see that Joe Biden is cognitively and physically challenged, and if you can’t see that, you sure as hell can’t be running the FBI. Wray has to resign, and NOW, for LYING TO CONGRESS!” he added. Several Republicans have accused Vice President Harris and other members of the administration of covering up for Biden’s deteriorating mental status.
For his part, Biden addressed the nation Wednesday evening and reiterated that although he has ended his reelection bid, he will remain serving as president until his term expires in January 2025. He has endorsed Harris, as have a number of other leading Democrats.
