Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) cautioned on Friday that leading Democrats are not in favor of a Kamala Harris ticket if President Joe Biden chooses not to seek reelection. As she vowed to tell “the straight truth” about what Democrats are saying about Biden’s reflection bid in private, the left-wing ‘Squad’ member told her Instagram live audience: “A lot of them are not just interested in removing the president. They are interested in removing the whole ticket.”
While the New York congresswoman has recently reiterated her backing for a Biden-Harris duo, her most recent statements offer an insightful look into the internal party battles occurring as the Left considers options for a Biden successor. In the early hours of Friday morning, Ocasio-Cortez spoke at length over “all of the craziness you see in the media about Joe Biden.” While Ocasio-Cortez ultimately says, “I don’t know what’s going to happen,” the congresswoman warned that a political “class of donors, decision-makers, power players” are calling the shots behind the scenes.
“I’m going to say what a lot of these people aren’t saying. If you think that there is consensus among the people who want Joe Biden to leave, that they will support Kamala, that they will support Vice President Harris, you would be mistaken,” Ocasio-Cortez said during the nearly hour-long live stream.
Ocasio-Cortez admits that Biden is “really old” and isn’t polling well with voters, saying, “I’m not here to tell you that if Joe Biden is the nominee, he’s definitely going to win.” But, she warned, “I’m looking at a watch, and I’m looking at a clock, and I’m looking at a calendar.”Ocasio-Cortez is concerned that the Democrats are running out of time, especially if they intend to replace both Biden and Harris.
The congresswoman from the Bronx voiced frustration that Democratic leaders are now discussing Biden’s replacement, despite previously ignoring criticisms of Biden and not giving other candidates an opportunity to vie for the position a year prior. “This whole class of people who are coming with this other opinion [to drop Biden from the presidential ticket] now has supported the president the entire time, and many of those people are the same people who closed ranks against anyone who even wanted to raise this conversation a year ago,” she said.

Last month, Ocasio-Cortez expressed concerns that former President Donald Trump might imprison her if he wins the election in November. The Congresswoman shared her worries with Kara Swisher on the podcast “On with Kara Swisher.”
“I mean, it sounds nuts, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this guy threw me in jail,” she said. “He’s out of his mind. I mean, he did his whole first campaign around ‘lock her up.’ This is his motto.” She then claimed that Trump will “round up people” if elected president.
“I take him at his word when he says that he’s going to round up people. I take him at his word when he threatens journalists. I take him at his word,” she said. “I feel like what we saw in his first presidency was an amuse-bouche to what his intentions are. He has learned from his mistakes of appointing professionals, and he will not make that mistake next time.”
Asked if she thinks Trump has a chance of beating President Biden in November, the New York Democrat said she thinks he does. “Trump does absolutely have a chance to win. That is why I have thrown my support behind Biden early and I support it vociferously,” she said. “It is unequivocal that if Donald Trump wins, we are looking at the potential dissolution of democracy in the United States of America and the question about what would happen to me or the Democratic Party is a joke compared to the question of what is going to happen to our country.”
