Arizona GOP gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake is already planning to upset the Biden administration on day one if she wins her race next month.
Speaking to a packed crowd of several hundred at a campaign event at ammunition maker Dillon Precision on Wednesday, Lake, who spent more than 20 years as a Phoenix-area newscaster, said she will tackle her state’s porous border.
“I will declare an invasion on the border on day one when I get into office. I want us to be known as The Grand Canyon State, not the fentanyl cartel state,” she said to cheers.
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) appeared at the event with Lake.
Lake also took a shot at her Democratic opponent, Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, who has refused to debate her.
“If you don’t show up for the job interview, then you don’t get the job. If she’s afraid of me, how is she going to go up against the cartels?” Lake said.

Lake talked specifically about Scottsdale, denouncing Scottsdale Unified School District for prioritizing a woke agenda over parental rights. She referenced a letter the National School Boards Association sent to President Joe Biden asking if schools could use the Gun-Free School Zones Act and the Patriot Act to crack down on parents upset over CRT and other issues – Lake said this essentially labeled them “domestic terrorists.”
Lake has also been backed by former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who announced earlier this month she was leaving her party.
“For too long, establishment leaders from both parties have sought to enrich themselves, play games, and build up their power while ignoring and even enabling the suffering of millions of hard-working Americans,” Gabbard said as she announced she would be stumping for Lake.
