President Joe Biden is said to be considering a horrific new move aimed at bolstering his sagging 2024 reelection campaign by energizing the far-left wing of the Democratic Party.

White House officials are considering whether to declare a national climate emergency several months before the 2024 election, according to people familiar with the matter as reported by Bloomberg.

Biden’s top advisers are reportedly revisiting discussions about declaring a national climate emergency, although there seems to be division among those involved. According to sources cited by Bloomberg, proponents of the move argue that it would impede offshore drilling and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, others believe it could also galvanize young voters, especially those prioritizing climate issues.

“President Biden has treated the climate crisis as an emergency since day one and will continue to build a clean energy future that lowers utility bills, creates good-paying union jobs, makes our economy the envy of the world and prioritizes communities that for too long have been left behind,” White House spokesperson Angelo Fernandez Hernandez told the outlet while not commenting directly on the reported discussions.

According to Bloomberg, a decision has not yet been reached, and discussions on this topic could continue for several years. The president’s administration had previously contemplated a similar measure in 2022 following the breakdown of negotiations on clean-energy legislation, as reported by Bloomberg.

Additionally, the outlet noted that Biden mentioned declaring a climate emergency in 2023 when he implemented “conservation policies.”

As the 2024 election approaches, such a move could potentially aid Biden in gaining support from the youth demographic, especially as the president currently lags behind in hypothetical matchups against former President Donald Trump, as reported by Bloomberg.

According to Bloomberg, youth climate activist networks like The Sunrise Movement, Fridays For Future USA, and the Campus Climate Network are organizing protests around Earth Day to urge the president to declare a climate emergency.
